my sister.
my sister is a doctor. this is no surprise being that i lived with her for the majority of her residency and attended all of her graduations from middle school on. however, i don't think it ever really sunk in until the other night when I sat beside andrew in his hospital bed. as i listened to this nineteen year old kid talk about acute lymphoblastic leukemia like he was describing the lunch menu, i suddenly became overwhelmed with admiration for my sister. i realized that it was someone just like her that sat down with drew for hours to explain every detail of his disease. this knowledge comforted him and prepared him for what was to come. not only that, but the mere fact that doctors are capable of doing the things he described was impossible for me to grasp. not just doctors - my sister. my sister. the girl i shared a bed with for years. the girl i still share clothes with. my sister is a doctor.
and i've never been prouder of the fact.
and i've never been prouder of the fact.
