the world as i see it

everybody thinks someone out there wants to know their opinions. their problems. their life story. i guess i'm no different.

bus duty

one of the most annoying jobs teachers have is 'bus duty' - the time when teachers have to supervise students before and after school. this week is my turn and my "post" is in the parking lot. the main job at this post is to make sure students don't loiter in the parking lot - they have to go on into the building. so...
every morning, i must report to the parking lot at 7:30 am. then i park in one spot. every five minutes or so, i start my car, drive in a circle, and stop my car. while circulating, i look for those breaking the Parking Lot Law... sitting in their cars. now, most people know that once they've driven to school, put their car in park, and turned off the car, it's time to go inside. not teenagers. they like to just sit. and sit. and wait for me to pull up right in front of them, roll down my window, stick out my hand and wave them towards the school. it's like herding cattle. except at least cows are smart enough to know that, if the majority of the group is headed in one direction, they should follow. not teenagers. they have to be told individually. so i get to pull up to each...different...car and tell them that yes, you too, have to go inside. go on, little cattle, go on. i'll see ya in there.
