the world as i see it

everybody thinks someone out there wants to know their opinions. their problems. their life story. i guess i'm no different.

favorites

my brother told me that a month without a post was a month too long, so how about two new ones, michael?
you requested a blog on my favorite book or movie... here it is

i've always said my favorite book is 'the great gatsby' - it's hard, though, to choose a favorite. especially when you teach 'books' for a living. every year, i'm introduced to a new author or classic novel that challenges gatsby for 'favorite rights.' like vonnegut's slaughterhouse-five. golden's memoirs of a geisha. wow. and then there are books that people just read for fun. (what? for fun?). books that don't need to be analyzed and symbolized. books like 'little children' and 'abstinence teacher' by tom perrota have been my recent favorites.
what i do appreciate is complex writing - something that makes me think. something that makes me appreciate the author's ability to tell the story in the way only he or she can tell it.

again, my favorite movie of choice used to be 'forrest gump.' it inspired in me a near obsession with tom hanks. for years, i tried to collect his movies (but he's in too many!). p.s. i love you and juno are movies i'm anxious to buy at movie gallery. oh yea - i love to buy movies at movie gallery. i'm such a sucker for the 4/$20 deal.

'favorite' implies there is one. but there are way too many good books and movies to pick just one!
