against the grain

with certain social circles, it is important to 'go against the grain.' to have a unique taste in music, movies, fashion, etc. to value what is considered 'real' music. to enjoy independent films. to shop at goodwill instead of abercrombie.
people in those social circles are usually artistic, independent, and eccentric.
i have spent my life trying to fit into that circle. as a result, i almost shy away from admitting i liked the blockbuster hit or that i dance along to the overplayed song on the radio.
so, it's time to confess. sometimes i do like those things. and here are a few in particular...
juno. i absolutely loved juno. i feel a little behind in saying that, because most people already saw it, loved it, and moved on from it. but still, it's awesome.
harry potter. i even avoided reading it because of the craze. but once it was assigned to me for a young adult lit class, i was hooked. never to be the same.
mtv. okay, perhaps this is my guiltiest pleasure, and the one i'm most ashamed to admit, but i will sit and watch reruns of america's next top model all day long. i'll wait anxiously for the next seasons of 'hills' and even get caught up in the drama of 'real world'
rap music. i have to admit, my taste in music probably is different than most, but, i do still enjoy dancing along in my car when i hear the words 'apple bottom jeans...'

okay. i'm ashamed now. the next post will have to be about the things i enjoy that others don't. just so i can redeem myself.
