mini-me
amira turned one on january 25th. on her first birthday, we did a lot of reminiscing about where we were the day she was born. the day was one of the scariest moments of my entire life. i remember sitting on the floor of my sister's hospital room, listening to the nurses whisper in frightened voices about the baby's heartbeat. i remember sitting in the cold, hard chairs, while we waited for her to be born. i was supposed to witness the birth, but my sister had to have a c-section - the umbilical cord was wrapped around amira's neck three times.
then... amira was born.
and the very first time i looked at her, i realized what love really meant. it may sound cliche, but it's true. it was something i can't describe in words but i felt with every inch of my being. my entire world changed. when i looked at my sister, i saw her in a totally different light - she had just given me the most precious gift. i couldn't keep my eyes off of her. all i could say was 'thank you.'
now, one year later, that undivided attention and unmeasurable love has paid off - amira adores me. and i adore her. we're two peas in a pod. people mistakenly call her my daughter, and i don't correct them. after all, we share so much: allergies, love of ketchup, and pouting noises. as a matter of fact... she's even starting to look a little like me...

Tears once again.
Michael, I'll be honored if she turns out as good of a person as our sister. You, hush.
Good Grief! Do we have to read about this as well as witness it everytime we are around these two! I can only say, "I pity Amira's parents and Amira's future boyfriends!"
I smile everytime I look at that picture of Amira with her aunt's glasses on. Love it!
