the world as i see it

everybody thinks someone out there wants to know their opinions. their problems. their life story. i guess i'm no different.

love

today i read an article in cosmo that said most people think that, in a relationship, the things you say to your significant other in moments of sadness can be crucial - however, the article claimed that what you say in moments of happiness matter more. i completely agree.
when someone loses a loved one or is experiencing a difficult time, it is almost expected for people to be at a loss for words, including a significant other. it is in those moments we usually want physical comfort more than words anyway. however, when we are proud of ourselves, we want our loved ones to be proud of us as well.
this was confirmed for me today after receiving an extremely positive email from my superintendent. since my first day in this district, i've wanted the superintendent to know me by name. It's hard to stand out among so many great teachers in this district. To be recognized by him was a proud moment for me. when my mom read the email, she said she got goosebumps... my dad asked me to forward it to him. their pride for me was written all over their faces. then, i forwarded the email to jesse.

i was sitting in the living room while he worked silently in the other room. suddenly, he asked me to join him. he was reading the email. he put everything down, reached up, and hugged me. he told me he was proud of me. he continued to compliment me - to stop in the middle of his work to recognize me. i realized in that moment how true that article was.
i don't expect jesse to know what to say when i experience sadness. i hope he doesn't expect that from me either. but i am so thankful that he knows exactly what to say in moments of happiness.

jesse - thank you for your constant support. i love you.
