the world as i see it

everybody thinks someone out there wants to know their opinions. their problems. their life story. i guess i'm no different.

i'm a dancer, not a runner: workout tip #2

so, now that i'm motivated to work out, i had to figure out how to push myself to run (not walk) on the treadmill. i found that motivation in an ipod full of 90s rap. and i came up with a method that could any of you out there who, like me, hate to exercise but love to dance.

first, i listened to "u can't touch this." every time mc hammer said "break it down" i ran. after the fast beat ended, i'd walk - but to the same treadmill speed that i was running to. then, after the second verse and hammer said "break it down" again - i'd run again. i did this for the entire song. that way, not only am i enjoying an awesome song and i'm finding myself agreeing that you can't touch this, i'm keeping in pace with a consistent run/walk.

then, good vibrations comes on. again, i have marky mark telling me "come on, come on!" and "if you ain't in it to win it, then get the hell out!" words like this push me anyway. but i continue the run/walk rotation. every time the chorus comes on, i run. with the verses, i walk. this ends up being pretty even.

i found that running/walking to the beat of music i love resembles dancing for me. it lifts my spirits and helps me forget that i'm running. and everyone needs to dance a little every day!
