lazy sundays
today at church, the gospel was about two sisters named martha and mary. when jesus visited these sisters, martha was rushing around the house getting dinner ready whil mary sat at jesus' feet and visited. the priest explained that there are lots of "marthas" and "marys" in the world, but we really need to be a little of both (marthy?). martha is the typical workaholic (as soon as he said that, jesse elbowed me in the ribs). the marthas in the world get stuff down but they rarely have time to sit down and appreciate things. marys, on the other hand, are carefree and relaxed. the priest went on to say that instead of being a martha or a mary, we should be like the monks who work 50% of the time and relax the other 50%. he specifically mentioned the fact that most families don't even have sunday dinners anymore.
well, even though i am definitely a martha, today, i was a marthy.
after church, i went to my parents' house for my favorite meal: turkey, mashed potatoes, etc. my parents, siblings, and our significant others crowded around the dinner table and after just a few bites in, my cousin and his mother showed up. we squeezed in tighter, grabbed a couple more plates, and kept right on eating. it was great. after a full belly and lots of time playing with my niece, jesse and i both went down for a very long nap. upon waking up, we decided we wanted sushi. after all, who doesn't?
so jesse, his brother, jimmy, and i headed to lville for sushi. yum. and now it's 11 pm and i'm lying in bed. what an incredible sunday.
i think i like being a marthy.

the monks didn't work 50% and relax 50%. they prayed for the other 50. unless you were silently praying while we were napping, you can't call yourself marthy. or marytha.
well, amira made us pray twice over lunch and i was definitely praying for the sushi to hurry up and arrive - so does that count?
